Rachel Saimons Quoted in "Cases To Watch In Native American Law In 2026"

Climate change and the current political climate are the main drivers for the states' regulations, which were put in place to allow "rural" fishers to cast off in some of the same waters as tribal members who argue that their sovereign treaty rights are being violated by the new ordinances, according to Rachel Saimons, a tribal rights attorney with Kilpatrick Townsend.

"Right now, states are initiating challenges to some of these laws or creating new policies regarding fishing and hunting rights," Saimons told Law360. "It's a perfect time to do that right now."
